Pinnarum Connochaetes (Feathered Wildebeest)

Here's the Final!....FINALLY! I call it simply Pinnarum Connochaetes or Feathered Wildebeest. I don't really have a story for this except this is a Prehistoric Mammal from the Pleistocene Epoch 11,000 to 14,000 years ago from the Middle to Southern African Grasslands.  Colorful plumage were found in fossil records and were probably shed when the climate began to change to a warmer more arid one. Males were most likely to have the more colorful plumage like most modern Avian's.  In conjunction with the horns these were an integral aspect for the bulls in fighting, mating and control of the herd. These Feathered Wildebeests were 7-9 ft. from the shoulders and fed on grasses and shrubs.

Bearded Vulture

Here's my final for the Bearded Vulture. I could do more but it will have to stay where it's at. I'm tired of drawing and painting feathers for now:

Avian Project: Bearded Vulture Update

I'm so tired of drawing birds and I'm far from over. Nevertheless, here's my work for the day of the
Bearded vulture (Gypaetus barbatus).

Features: The Bearded Vulture is an unmistakable bird, with black ‘sideburns’, red rings around the eyes and a long wedge-shaped tail. Bearded vultures have black facial markings and black wings, the rest of the head, neck and body are a rich rusty orange. This is because Bearded vultures in the wild rub themselves with ferric oxides. Captive born birds are therefore not rusty but white in color. Juvenile bearded vultures are completely dark, and undergo multiple moulting.
Currently, Bearded vultures are the rarest vultures in Europe, only occurring in the Pyrenees (around 100 breeding pairs), Corsica (8 pairs), Crete (9-10 breeding pairs), and a reintroduced population in in the Alps (20 breeding pairs). The total population in Europe (including Turkey and Russia) is estimated at 600 to 1000 pairs.

Behavior: Unlike the myth, Bearded vultures do not hunt live prey, and even avoid meat. The diet of the Bearded vulture consists for 80 to 90% of the bleached carcass bones.

Sunny: The Vampyre Killer

My friend Sunny was my model for my past two homework assignments. We did a Vampire Apocalypse theme so he's shown here with several kinds of weapons in a variety of poses. Those of you who know him know he always smiles even when I told him, "Don't Smile....Your a Vampire Hunter!"  He couldn't hold the badass look for more than a second. His name is Sunny after all. Some of them aren't perfect but that's fine. I haven't posted mistakes for quite awhile.

These are all done in charcoal. I had been using Conte Crayon for weeks and wanted to go back to my first love.....charcoal:

Avian Project

I decided to do a Gypaetus Barbatus, otherwise known as a "Bearded Vulture". They are so dynamic looking. They have either all black or dark brown wings and tail with a beige to orange head and body feathers...sometimes they are all black with a white/black head. Incredible looking. In any case here is my initial sketch. I will updated this as I go.

Wildebeest Creature Concept

I'm not sure what to call this sucker yet. Im kind of burned out by it and need to start on some Avian concepts (bird). In any case here is the original concept sketch and the WIP but finished pencils:

Creature Design Week 9

Alright, so this past week I'm focusing on Bovine and specifically the Black Wildebeest. They are really trippy beasts and very odd to look at....very different than it's cousin the Blue Wildebeest. Anyway, here are the orthographics, final painting and the final layout. This isn't my best work but with all the life issues going on right now this is the best I've got....though in hindsight, it's not bad.

Visual Development

Here are some detailed story-beats from the recent past: concept sketches, color comps and final painting for a Robin Hood revamp. Little did I know that it was similar to "Arrow", a show I never really watched but mine was definitely in the future so these sketches have no relation to the show. These go in progression from the value comps, to color comps, to one of the production paintins (wip):

Canine Creature Update

I spent some time this week working this out....finally! The color stuff are color sketches with little time for refinement. Most of the refining of the final layouts are done in the original drawing itself. Obviously the one with a background takes a bit more time. I have the concept art from sketches to the final painting to the final layout to see the progression:

Creature Design Update

It's been a few weeks since I last posted.  Here are a few weeks worth of stuff from the class:
